With buyer come from Scotland, South East and West Wales for the 6th annual production sale of Berrichon ewes.
Bidding started off at a pace with the first lot making the highest on the day a bid of 1000gns secured her for ST Pritchard, Nokem Farm, Hallow. Strathallan ewe RBG10 015 a homebred ewe with Robert Grahams breeding throughout her dam was dam of the Builth NSA ram sale champion in 2011 and she oused quality. She was carrying twins to Newark Knockout The bidding only slowed down slightly for Strathallan's pen of eight sheep averaging £757 on the day.
The sale continued with sheep for all budgets Woodston saw a top of 620gns for CMH10 001 Woodston Kelly, a imported sire Andre daughter out of a homebred YEO05 001 daughter. She had been shown as a yearling and was carrying twins to Galtres Kato, she was secured by a phone bid for new breeder Mr Chris Curry, Low Burradon, Thropton, Morpeth. Woodston average on the day £467 (13)
Incledon, new to the group of breeders, brought out some good quality sheep, with the substitute ewe lot 27 reaching the highest price of £473 to no stranger to the Best of the Berrichon sale breeder J&F Gardner, Sandpitts Farm, Pillerton Priors. Incledon average on the day £359 (5)
Swincombe's ewes were also in demand with the mainly April born yearlings getting to £452 for lot 33 for Mr D Cantrill, Boundary Farm, Alkmonton, Ashbourne. She was out of a Strathallan sire and a Eurostar daughter, she was carrying twins to RWAS continental champion of 2010 Henaullt Jack. Swincombe average on the day £357 (13).
Several buyers went home with empty trailer unable to secure the ones they wanted.
With 39 ewes sold averages were up on the year to £476 (up from £423). Aged ewes were £506 (7) and yearlings £469 (25)
